Hot Dish on Facebook: Stop climate change, win cool prizes!

One of the reasons I haven't kept up with my DSN blogging lately is that I've been extremely busy working on a NewsCloud-related project, Hot Dish. It's a very cool new climate change news application for Facebook which I hope you'll try out and share with your friends!

Hot Dish allows Facebook users to read, discuss, post and share news about climate change, the most serious issue facing our planet. Editorial content is provided through our partnership with online environmental magazine, Grist.org!

If you are a 16- to 25-year old U.S. resident, you can participate in the Hot Dish Action Team, earn points through online and offline actions and compete for rewards. Top eligible participants can win a grand prize trip for two to the Arctic from Quark Expeditions, an Amazon Kindle 2, a "green" Apple MacBook and much more. The Daily Show Turns Off Its Video Feed

Some of you have asked why the clips on our blog (as well as our Daily Show Facebook application) haven't been updating. Basically, when The Daily Show moved over to its new Web site, they turned off the RSS feed (http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/index.jhtml) we used to link to its video clips. The Colbert Report feed is still working. If anyone can find a working RSS feed for the new Daily Show site, please email me.

We've turned off videos in support of the writer's union

We've turned off access to the Daily Show and Comedy Central videos from our clips area, our Facebook applications and NewsCloud until the writer's strike is over. Keep up with the strike at No Fact Zone. We support unions and the rights of workers/writers to strike when they feel it is necessary to ensure they are treated fairly by their employers.

The Daily Show to Launch New Web Site with Show Video and Archives

Reuters reports The Daily Show is getting a new Web site:

TheDailyShow.com, which launches in the fourth quarter, will archive the entire video history of the show including headlines, interviews and the "Back in Black" feature. The portal also will present the previous evening's episode in its entirety an hour or two after its broadcast.

Why YouTube Wants to Subpoena Jon Stewart

I think it goes back to this Wired interview with Stewart and then producer Ben Karlin in which Karlin essentially encouraged folks to keep downloading clips off the Internet. YouTube lawyers may get a lot of sarcasm and comic ridicule should they try to get Stewart under oath. The interview reads tongue in cheek, certainly not Viacom policy.

Comedy Central Announces New InDecision 2008 Website

Comedy Central’s long running InDecision campaign is making the jump online. The network announced that a new political humor website will launch on Wednesday, well ahead of original plans. Even though the next presidential election won’t occur until November of 2008 the ramp up in the race has caused the network to launch a year ahead of time.

FaceReviews reviews our Facebook Daily Show News Application

I have been looking at this new application that allows users to get The Daily Show Clips on Facebook. This is an interesting facebook application (not from Comedy Central) from several perspectives. It is from the people behind Daily Show News Blog. It is effectively and application that mashes up the rss feed from the Comedy Central Daily Show feed and then embeds the video. It brings a whole new level to re-purposing content. I am not sure what Comedy Central thinks of this, I am sure they will weigh in eventually. I like it.

For most of you, I recommend the fuller featured NewsCloud Facebook application which includes Colbert Report clips and other social news features.
