Hypocrisy Much?

On Wednesday night, Jon discussed the fact that the news outlets, including the Associated Press, assured us that Hillary Clinton would concede to Barack Obama.  She did not.

So let the jokes fly, right?

That's all well and good, until Jon had something to say about Hillary's comments regarding the lack of support for her campaign from "the pundits and naysayers."  Jon disagreed with Clinton, then proceeded, as he often does, to show a series of clips illustrating his point.

You can view the video here.  It begins around the four minute mark.

Notice, however, how there are absolutely no clips from 2008.  Hasn't a lot been said in the past five months?  I would call this a little more hypocritical than usual for The Daily Show, especially since Jon has called O'Reilly out before for doing the same thing.

This post, by the way, isn't a reflection of any kind of bias on my part.  I support Obama for the presidency, and I'm certainly not embarrassed to say so.  I do, however, see (very clearly) the media's (and The Daily Show's) bias against Hillary, and it's definitely getting on my last nerve.

I have also found myself thinking out loud "what?" on several occasions when watching the show. IMO, it does seem like that a few segments do take comments out of context to attack entities rather than provide comedic effect (which is totally cool and hilarious).

One example that I can somewhat remember is when a sound bite of Anderson Cooper was played to highlight certain 'bias' or 'negligence' (I cant remember which) in the media. I had watched that day's AC360 and AC's question (the one played in TDS clip) to the guest seemed absolutely fair and relevant, which was not true of the entire interview. I remember thinking "What are you attacking AC on that question for? The context of the interview makes that question and motive make sense."

Necessary footnote: I also dont consider myself a media critic or even a necessarily-well-informed individual, but I do wish that sometimes those who call-out other media groups would also themselves get called-out. Perhaps I mean to say, IMO, TDS is definitely the foremost "call-out"-er. Which is a good thing. But, on the other hand... *shrug*

Comment the first: If any other Canadians are reading this and missed the show, you can see the clip here - http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart/full-episodes/#clip57697

Comment the second: As usual, we need to remember that this is, after all, a comedy show. It's a clever use of video, and it was very funny, so I'm not too bothered by it.

That said, it does say a lot about the news media in America today that they presumably *couldn't* find a "Clinton is inevitable" clip from 2008. I bet if they'd made a similar montage of "Obama is inevitable" clips, they would start in January 2008.

I just hope that most people realize that the point Jon was making was five months old.
