Ferguson Supports Stewart for Letterman's Seat

In a very interesting article from  Broadcasting & Cable Craig Ferguson, host of the 12:30am CBS program The Late Late Show , has stated if David Letterman were to part from his 11:30pm timeslot on CBS in 2010 (when his contract is up), Jon Stewart should get the job.

“I think Jon should replace Dave if Dave decides to go,” Ferguson said last week. “I think Dave should stay, I think he ain't done. But if Dave is finished, I think Jon has earned the job.”

It seems a bit strange for this newly Americanized host to not want the 11:30pm gig. He either has a plan, or really isn't sure what he wants to do.

The article mentions that Ferguson might not want to deal with the headaches of an 11:30 timeslot, or even the increased amount of fame. By the same token, I'm not sure if Jon would either.

“It's not been my lifelong ambition to host The Tonight Show or something like it,” he says. “Jimmy [Kimmel] and Conan [O'Brien], that's what they want and have always wanted. I think I'm pretty good at it, but it's not necessary for me to feel complete as a human being."

Jon Stewart's contract is also up in 2010. So as the time grows nearer, and if Mr. Letterman doesn't sign a new contract, who will be sitting in the big chair at 11:30 on CBS? I think either one would make a great host for The Late Show.

Or perhaps the both of them can start their own syndicated talk show and become the next Oprah and Dr. Phil. You decide who gets to be Oprah.
